Multi-level inventory management decisions with transportation cost consideration

چکیده
In this article we address specific inventory management decisions with transportation cost consideration in a multi-level environment consisting of a supplier–warehouse–retailers. We develop two models – namely, decentralized ordering model and centralized ordering model to investigate the effect of collective ordering by retailers on the total inventory cost of the system. A numerical study shows that the proposed model is robust and generates reasonable cost savings. The models have potential in several multi-level applications such as fresh or frozen food delivery to stores of different supermarkets or the supply of medicine to a number of hospitals from a wholesaler. 2009 Elsevier Ltd. A new model and heuristic for a multi-period inventory-routing problem
The need for integration in supply chain management leads us to consider the coordination of two logistic planning functions: transportation and inventory. The coordination of these activities can be an extremely important source of competitive advantage in supply chain management. The battle for cost reduction can involve finding the equilibrium between transportation and inventory management ...
متن کاملEstimation of the cost function of a two-echelon inventory system with lost sales using regression
Multi-echelon inventory systems are one of the most important and attractive areas in modelling supply chain management so that several researches and studies have been done about. In this paper, the total cost function of a two-echelon inventory system with central warehouse and many identical retailers controlled by continuous review inventory policy is estimated. We have assumed the demand i...
متن کاملDeriving the Exact Cost Function for a Two-Level Inventory System with Information Sharing
In this paper we consider a two-level inventory system with one warehouse and one retailer with information exchange. Transportation times are constant and retailer faces independent Poisson demand. The retailer applies continuous review (R,Q)-policy. The supplier starts with m initial batches (of size Q), and places an order to an outside source immediately after the retailer’s inventory posit...
متن کاملA New Multi-Objective Inventory-Routing Problem by an Imperialist Competitive Algorithm
One of the most important points in a supply chain is customer-driven modeling, which reduces the bullwhip effect in the supply chain, as well as the costs of investment on the inventory and efficient transshipment of the products. Their homogeneity is reflected in the inventory-routing problem, which is a combination of distribution and inventory management. This paper considers a multi object...
متن کاملOptimization of Supply Chain Systems with Price Elasticity of Demand
A centralized multi-echelon, multi-product supply chain network is presented in a multi-period setting with products that show varying demand against price. An important consideration in such complex supply chains is to maintain system performance at high levels for varying demands that may be sensitive to product price. In order to examine the price-centric behavior of the customers, the conce...
